Getting Personal Imprinting LLC is owned and operated by DJ and Judi Brown. We are Montana natives who have settled in the Pacific Northwest after DJ retired from the U.S. Navy in early 2006. Over the course of DJ's military career, we lived in Montana, Washington Louisiana, Arkansas and California.

DJ retired as a Navy Chief Petty Officer. He has expertise in planning, organizing and attending hundreds of military events and can help you make the milestones in your military career truly memorable. He knows the importance of creating a good first impression and will work with you to design items that will make you stand out.

Judi graduated from the University of Montana School of Journalism and has more than 20 years of experience in a variety of professional settings, including government, banking, manufacturing and the nonprofit sector. She can help you make workplace and family celebrations something that your staff, colleagues, clients, family and friends will cherish.

Our foil imprinted work is produced on one of our three hot foil presses. Each item we produce is created by hand. We align individual magnesium dies - letters and ornaments - into a type holder, adjusting the settings on our press for the type of foil and the item being imprinted and then individually stamp each item. We can now produce imprinted ribbon with a Belgium-designed ribbon printer. We purchase and use quality products from well-respected companies in the printing and foil stamping industries.

Our photo glazing is done by taking the photographs you give us and placing them on a variety of different items like plates and vases or jewelry to name a few, then pouring our polymer glaze over the top of the photo to protect and preserve it. Once the photo is on the item, it looks and feels as if the photo was made right into the item. We have some excellent photo editing programs and have merged photos together, restored old damaged photos or even just brought the color out of a poorly taken photo.

In 2007 we added an inkjet Piezo printer to our production. The piezo technology allows us to print images or words directly onto items such as crystals, tiles, nameplates, light switch covers, jewelry and much, much more.

And in 2008, we added laser engraving and laser cutting to our menu of products and services.

Our business continues to evolve. Already in 2009 we've added a sublimation and mug press to our production equipment. And, in July, we added a button press.

In August 2009 we leased a new space for our store at 307 Garfield Street S. in Parkland. Our store will be open at this site in October 2009!

Customer testimonials

We work hard to exceed the expectations of our customers, and we're always delighted when our customers let us know that they appreciate our efforts.

From V.T., Olympia WA

"Hi DJ,

I just got off the phone with Chris & he said that everything was great.  He raved about the plate with the tall boxer a lot & himself & the crystals & the pens.

He told me that he & Pat both thought it was really very professional how you put a letter explaining what happened & the big Happy Birthday note in the box.

Thanks again for making this such a great day for them.  And they are looking forward to the other items as well."

From Lobb, Jason, J. USN
Recruiter-in-charge, NRS Fremont, CA

"Thank you very much for the wonderful (business) cards. The large variety of colors
and designs made it hard to find a choice that would suit our business, but
your expertise and professionalism helped us choose the card that would fit
our needs. I am very pleased with the quality and final outcome of your
product. The expedited shipping and profesional attitude of Getting
Personal Imprinting is going to keep me coming back for a long time."

From Anne P., another of  our recent customers...

I picked up the invitations on Friday evening.  They are wonderful.
We appreciate the great service, and fast service too.
Take care and thanks again for everything!
You made this a whole lot easier and less stressful for us.

From Sharon E., Shear Style LLC

"I love your product & your customer service is exceptional! I have honestly received all kinds of compliments on my new cards."

 From Sandra V.

"I am so sorry I haven’t gotten back to you to let you know that I received (my invitations) on Friday afternoon and WOW did they look great.  I was pleasantly surprised that the address was printed on the return envelopes and mailing envelopes in red print!!!!  Once again thank you for all your help."

 From Lisa S. (Milwaukee, WI)

"Getting Personal Imprinting" was easily searchable and answered my email inquiry immediately. I needed personalized napkins for my mom's 60th birthday party, and I needed them quick, in less then a week! Not only did they get my order to me with time to spare, they looked great, the emails were friendly, and I ended up paying less then had I ordered them locally! I'm very impressed and would definitely return for all of my personalization needs!!"

 From Kathy K. (Burien, WA)

"Thanks so much! Beautiful! Professional!"

From Carol H. (East Wenatchee, WA)

"Thank you so much for the beautiful job you did on the napkins for my parents' 50th anniversary! They really finished off the tables with class. I'll be in touch for the next 'big event'!!"

From Heidi G. (South Carolina)

"The invitations are GREAT!! Thank you for your help. I'm sure the party will be great because it will be so inviting!!"

 From May (Washington)

Just wanted to let you folks know that the photo blanket I ordered turned out beautiful. It was worth the wait. My husband received it in three days after I had mailed it to him in Kuwait and he loves it. He mentioned to me that it almost made him cry. Thanks so much for having it turn out perfectly. Thanks.

From Laura (New York)

WOW!!!! Thank you so very much. My husband and I were/are very impressed by the products we just received!

Thank you! I wasn't so sure my husband would like the platter, but he was shocked he had never heard that poem/verse before and we both are very pleased.

The pens, napkins and platter are just fantastic!

Thank you again. I wish I had a business so I could order business cards. :) Very nice!

I really like the pen you made also, very impressive.

Thanks again, I'll keep you in mind if we need anything else or I know of anyone.

Good luck and God bless.

Nostalgia is nice, but business owners can’t afford to rely on outdated practices

The Garfield Street business community is fantastic. The street offers restaurants – Mexcian, American, Italian, Asian – as well as coffee shops, a record store, a health spa, attorney, real estate professionals, income tax preparer, electronics repair shop, the US Post Office, a hobby/toy store, a neighborhood grocery store, a store specializing in Island jewelry and related products, a tattoo parlor, second hand store and, of course, our store.

For locals I’d easily compare Garfield Street to Tacoma’s 6th Avenue or Proctor District. But Garfield Street doesn’t get the notoriety those other shopping districts do.

Part of the reason Garfield Street is less well known outside the Parkland/Spanaway area is because many of the Garfield Street merchants cling to old-fashioned business practices. Few have websites. The business owners don’t take advantage of social media to market their businesses. Most members of the Garfield business community know little about networking.

We’re trying to change that. We started the website, www.shopgarfieldstreet.com. Over time we will get all members of the Garfield Street Business Association to contribute content – once we convince them that the added exposure will bring business to our street.

We’re also working on re-designing business cards for the association. The former cards aren’t up to date, and have a very old-fashioned look. On top of that they treated the old business cards like gold, handing them out sparingly.

No Predicting Invitation & Announcement Purchasing Patterns

Over the last three days I’ve submitted orders for wedding invitations, wedding menu cards & programs and graduation announcements. It’s mid-June – not traditionally a big month for wedding or graduation printing needs. I don’t pretend to know why this year, this pattern has developed. In the past, wedding printing was hot between February and April. And we sold almost no graduation announcements up until this year. We’re thrilled with this unexpected increase in social printing orders and will make no attempt in future years to predict when the busy times for such orders are going to hit.

Forward Thinking

One of the most rewarding aspects of owning a business is the freedom to plan for the future and to take advantage of multiple opportunities for growth. In our industry – printing, gifts and awards – progress moves along at a fast pace. We do our best to keep up on the current trends by attending conferences, reading magazines and participating in a variety of online forums. It’s refreshing to be a part of an industry where change is commonplace, where new products and new processes are introduced all the time and where new ideas are embraced. This past week one off our most loyal customers visited our store to pick out some new gift items for her family. We love this customer because she challenges us to come up with new and innovative products. we continue to deliver because this customer continues to come back to us.

Open on Saturday

When we first opened our store we debated whether to work on Saturdays. We decided we’d work half days, 10-2, most Saturdays. This has proven to be a good strategy for us. First, almost every Saturday we get calls from people looking to get items engraved. Apparently we’re the only local engraving shop open at all on Saturdays. We’ve produced nametags, trophies, added engraved plates to awards and produced a lot of rubber stamps on Saturdays for customers who needed those items right away. Most of our neighboring stores are also open on Saturday and we do business with many of those merchants. Often we’re so busy with walk in traffic on Saturday that we’re there and open well past 2 pm. We sacrifice some of our free time by working on Saturday, but we’re able to use that working time to increase our sales, and we almost always have time early on Saturday to get caught up with custom orders due the following week.

At the Top of the Roller Coaster

It’s been a good week for us. One of our goals has been to establish business relationships with other local entities that will result in us having somewhat steady repeat business. This week we did just that and we’ve already realized business from that new relationship. We hope this is the first of many such relationships and to that end we joined a local association of businesses. We’ve already done business for the association leadership and now we hope our membership will bring us business from members of the association.

On top of these efforts, we also had a successful outing at Armed Forces Day on May 15th. We produced 16 custom wall tributes this week and also spoke with a lot of contacts from Army units and their FRGs who are interested in using us for awards, gifts and fundraisers.

We were supposed to work at the local VA Hospital this coming week, but schedulers at the VA double booked vendors so we won’t be at the VA this month but we do have dates reserved there in June & July.
